Attilio hand carved many intricate details in the arches, filigrees, narrow canals and dark passages - even if they would never be seen without pulling the model apart. He only used native woods of birch, beech and cirmolo.
He often found it necessary to travel to Venice to confirm data or obtain new information before proceeding further with the model. His work was popular and his friends were interested in the progress of the model so he held open house in his studio on Sunday afternoons.
Nine years later the model of St. Mark’s was finished - August 1963.
