Attilio Savoia entered the government service in Milan as an architectural draftsman at the age of 18. In 1929, the architectural department of the Ministry of Transportation in Rome recruited him to organize a model making department. Here he spent many years making architectural models.
The Railroad Station of Venice was one of the last models he made for the Ministry. While there, he was inspired by the splendor and beauty of Venice and decided to make a model of St. Mark’s Square. The above photo is of Attilio and his assistant, Luigi Ferrero, in his studio in Rome.
